National Wrestling Day in Iran

Today marks the National Day of Wrestling in Iran, coinciding with birth anniversary of legendary Iranian wrestler Gholam-Reza Takhti.

Takhti is considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all time and was a national hero in Iran during his lifetime.

He won numerous championships, including Olympic gold medals.

Over time, Iranian people have bestowed the athletically and culturally important title "Pahlevan" on a few athletes, including Takhti.

The distinction is given to athletes who have humanitarian attributes in addition to their sportsmanship, such as assisting the needy during times of hardship.

Iranian cinema has paid homage to the world wrestling champion and national hero by making several biopics on Takhti. ‘Ghomalreza Takhi’ directed by Bahram Tavakkoli is just an instance to cite.

Takhti's legacy continues to inspire wrestlers in Iran today, and National Wrestling Day is a celebration of his life and accomplishments.
